General information

Miranda Arapakis:

is certified with DONA International

• is trained in and familiar with Bradley method, Spinning Babies, and

Infant loss and bereavement.

• can provide reassurance and advocacy, make suggestions, help with relaxation, massage, labor positions and other techniques for comfort.

is independent and not employed by the hospital or care provider.

Limitations of a doula

We acknowledge and understand that Miranda Arapakis:

• does not perform tasks such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, and vaginal exams.

• does not make decisions for us. Decisions are made by the family and medical team.

• does not speak to the staff, instead of us, regarding decisions being made.

cannot directly control the length of labor (long or precipitous).

We understand that Miranda Arapakis:

• can answer questions to best of her ability through text, email and phone support.

• offers one in-depth prenatal meeting; usually near 32-37 weeks. This meeting will cover questions, planning for labor, stages of labor, suggestions for early labor and more. (Additional custom classes are available for a fee/ upon request).

• can provide coaching for relaxation, positioning and prenatal preparation.

• is on-call from about 39-41 weeks and will support on either side of that, if able.

• provides continual, focused support during labor, delivery and immediate postpartum.

• will take birth photos and video, if allowed and desired from high efficiency iPhone camera.

• offers 1 postpartum check-in: Facetime/Zoom/ or in-person. This meeting allows us to process the birth together, discuss newborn care and provide additional resources.

• will provide a backup doula to provide support in the event of a extra-ordinarily long labor, illness, personal travel, supporting another birth, or unexpected circumstance.

will provide a backup doula if needed, the client would accept the back-up doula and Miranda will pay the back-up doula directly.

Obligation of the client:

We acknowledge and agree:

• we will call Miranda when we believe active labor has started.

• the fee for doula services is $1400 unless other arrangements are made.

• we will pay a non-refundable deposit of $700 at the signing of this agreement that is applied to the total fee.

• we will pay the remaining $700 by 36 weeks. This can be paid in multiple payments.

• it is our responsibility to confirm that Miranda is allowed to attend us at all times.

• we are responsible for all medical decisions in consult with our medical provider and Miranda is not held responsible for the medical decisions or outcome of the birth.

• In the case of an induction, we will keep Miranda notified of progress, and we

understand that Miranda will join in active labor.

in the case of a scheduled cesarean section prior to going into labor (scheduled for breech presentation, or other medically indicated reasons), it is our responsibility to confirm if Miranda is allowed to support and if so, in what capacity.

We have read this agreement, acknowledge that it reflects our discussion with Miranda and agree to the services, payments, and terms herein.
